Spring has sprung and that means it is that time again, time to clean out your closets, drawers and storage rooms! Just like anyone, designers need to clean too. Here are our top spring cleaning tips and tricks.
1. Always Clean with Healthy Products
One of the most important things today is that you are cleaning your home with safe products. When we aren't using vinegar we are using baking soda. Creating natural cleaning products ourselves ensures our home is safe for our little ones whether they are kids or dogs.
Baking Soda kill virus causes bacteria, however it also deodorizes, brightens and can replace many of your chemical cleaners quite easily.
Vinegar is a perfect cleaning tool because of its acidity. Vinegar effectively eliminates dirt, grime and soap scum.
2. Have the Right Tools
Well the home painter can't paint without a brush so make sure you have the correct tools to spring clean.
- Plastic Bags and Trash Bags
- Rubber Gloves
- Bucket and Mop
- Swiffer Dusters- we just love them!
- Bins or Organizing Materials
- Label Maker
- Sponges/J-Clothes
- Paper Towel
3. Have a Plan of Attack
When we start cleaning we always have a plan. Know where you are going to start and know where you are going to end. It is often best to keep this as a standard cleaning formula.
4. Throw Out Junk
Do not be afraid to throw things away. Things that are considered "junk", toss. No need to keep clutter and mess. You will feel like a different person once you have emptied your home of junk.
5. Don't Forget Outside
You may be focussed on your indoor spring cleaning, but don't forget to freshen up outside your home too.
6. Split It Into a Few Days
You don't have to accomplish everything in one day. It is often less overwhelming to break up your spring cleaning on to different days.
7. Don't Forget to Clean The Fridge
I am not sure if this occurs in your home but in mine I am always forgetting to clean the fridge. I let things sit, which is a horrible habit. So when spring cleaning do not forget the fridge.
8. Spring Clean The Pets
One of the messiest things in our homes are our dogs. They never wipe their feet by themselves, they sometimes shed and their toys are EVERYWHERE. So when spring cleaning don't forget to maybe take your furry friends in to the groomers for their own spring cleaning.
9. Wash Your Duvet
Many people don't think they can wash their duvet insert. However many of them you can. Follow the instructions for cleaning your own duvet. If it says dry-clean only then pop on over for your once a year cleaning. If you can launder it at home remember to stick it in the dryer with some tennis balls to keep the feathers from drying flat.
10. Clean Yourself
We don't mean, take a shower but we mean take some much needed time for yourself. Enjoy a spa day, start a new yoga routine or dedicate yourself to eating healthy. Spring cleaning is not just for your home!
